James Adair Endowment
The RMF primary focus is on responsible stewardship of Ragged, and our role in maintaining and restoring access to other climbing areas throughout Connecticut. For these purposes, the Ragged Mountain Foundation has begun a special campaign whose main objective is to build an endowment for future generations. At this time, the liability insurance for RaggedMountain, mandated in perpetuity by the Deed of Conservation Easement governing the property costs about $2000 per year. There are typically 200 to 300 dues-paying RMF members annually. This insurance expense and other operating costs for website, newsletter mailings and member events have kept us from accruing savings and limit our ability to act on behalf of the climbing community. When the RMF Board of Directors began exploring ways to establish an endowment to cover annual operating expenses associated with our RaggedMountain property, we received a very generous gift of $15,000 from the Adair family. The Adairs' kind gift to the RMF, now known as the James Adair Endowment, has moved us halfway to our total endowment goal of $30,000. This fund will ensure our continued stewardship of RaggedMountain and allow us to use membership dues in new ways. Nationally, the RMF is one of the first and few climbing organizations whose members own their own cliff. As the RMF evolves as a non-profit organization, we plan to broaden our mission to include new goals such as: professional support for statewide access issues, ecological maintenance of our property, and acquisition of other Connecticut climbing areas. To pursue these interests, the RMF will establish a Special Projects Fund as a separate, flexible resource.
Contributions to the James Adair Endowment or the Special Projects Fund can be included in your membership or made online using PayPal.
